It’s not often that I look at a chart and say, “Wow!” several times in a row when I first see it. This chart, along with the last Full Moon in Aquarius chart is unusually powerful, especially in its importance as a messenger about our future.
Humanity has been systematically trying to ignore, corrupt, or co-opt the messages from Spirit, our Unconscious, the messages from Beyond, for thousands of years. But most especially since the Age of Reason[1] and the Industrial Age, the Western societal ethic has rejected the religious dogmas in favor of science, and thought our brains and machines could control and manipulate reality, that we could rule the planet with our laws and ideas, ignoring the rest of the biosphere and the integrity of the patterns of life around us. Wrong!
We’ve benefitted from the advances of science, which have warned us about our climate and environment, but Spirit and the messages and visions from our elders have also been calling us to pay attention to what needs to change in our beliefs and ways of doing business. Astrology, both an art and a science, calls us toward the larger truths in the patterns and cycles which stretch out from the past and into the future.
So let’s take a look at this doorway into the next Moon cycle, to see what the gods are displaying for us to contemplate and integrate.
First of all, this New Moon (a new beginning cycle) takes place just as the Sun is at zero degrees of Virgo, the exact beginning of a sign with the emphasis upon healing, health, service to others, and attention to details. Virgo energy teaches us that “the mind…is a good servant but a bad master, especially when the mind usurps the sovereignty of the spirit.”[2] When we develop the ability to discriminate between the two, we are on a healing path. This ability is essential for each one of us to continue to cultivate in the age of mis/disinformation, of media tricks and AI that take us further away from the awareness of our own inner truth, our birthright connection to our soul. “Taking our power back” is not only about our political power as a citizen, it’s also the innate power of our inner wisdom, including the wisdom of our bodies, that sanctity which has been appropriated and warped by societal institutions and many of our religions.
Since this New Moon is at 0˚ it resonates and connects with other planets also at zero or one degree. That’s Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto! These outer planets are the ones that rule our collective karma and destiny, and so we must really deeply pay attention here to what’s happening, since all of us are affected, whether we realize it or not.
The energetic “wiring” of a chart consists of the angles that planets make to each other, called “aspects.” (the colored lines in the chart). These tell us whether the psychic forces either clash and challenge each other, or coordinate and harmonize.
The Yod
In this chart the New Moon (Sun conjunct Moon) is in a pattern called a “Yod”. A Yod is like a divining rod, with two handles that energize and point to a third point, in this case, the New Moon. The handles are 1) Pluto and 2) the epic Saturn/Neptune conjunction. Yods are powerful and dynamic aspects that have been called the “finger of God” in that they are like a giant billboard sign calling us to pay attention to something that lies just beyond our conscious awareness. We have a date with destiny here, in whatever way each of us is being called. There is something in the back of our psyche that longs for attention, that may go against what our conscious mind allows or knows.
The Handles
1) Pluto in Aquarius defines this New Moon as one of intense transformation, one that calls in the deepest longings of our soul to emerge and release old limiting behaviors, to adopt new ways of living in this world. We may be living in ways that no longer bring us joy, only security. The last time Pluto was in this position was just after 1776. We’re in the modern version of that revolutionary time of major changes.
2) The Saturn/Neptune conjunction, the other “handle,” pushes us to pay attention to the limitations in our belief systems that lie deep within our unconscious, beliefs that may not be ours, but handed down to us from generations of societal mores. Saturn is the karmic planet, but in Aries it’s asking us to readjust and re-investigate our perceived limitations, to break the cycles of trauma, and see how our sufferings can be our greatest teacher. Neptune brings us new dreams and visions of what life on Planet Earth could be like, for us individually and collectively.
As you can see, we’re being pushed beyond our limits. These two forces, energizing the Virgo New Moon, ask us to venture into new territories of healing and service to others, and actually are an indicator that we will be going there, either consciously or not.
The Push
Uranus, the planet that pushes us (and often suddenly) forms a challenging square (90˚ angle) to this New Moon, which could mirror our reluctance to walk into this new territory, or a feeling that things are happening too much, too fast. Uranus here is actually an accelerating force, a pressure cooker, pushing us to readjust our thoughts, our judgements, (it’s in Gemini) toward what is healing and helpful, toward what might be truly possible for us, for humanity, to achieve. This process oftentimes begins with the most personal, or what seems insignificant, shifts in our awareness.
The Magic Triangle
The possibility of a new future for humanity is reflected in a “Magic (or Mystic) Triangle” with Uranus (revolution) in a harmonious trine to Pluto (transformation), along with both planets harmoniously sextile (60˚congruent angles) to the Saturn/Neptune pairing. This extremely rare alignment of the outer planets in harmonious angles to each other will continue into next year and become exact in 2026. Astrologers know this holds the promise of a spiritual and humanitarian revolution. At only 1˚of all signs, it’s just the beginning of a cycle that will take years to manifest, yet it will be a Turning Point for humanity nonetheless. It gives us the possibility of a new fulcrum point on which to turn around the devastation and ignorance of humanity’s darker side, its fascination with violence.
Meanwhile, we suffer the slings and arrows of a society in complete dysfunction, teetering on the edge of extinction. What we do have is our trust that there is a larger design that is operating behind the scenes, confirmed by our inner guidance, and astrology’s thousands of years’ history of observation of the cycles and meanings of the planets.
The archetypal Feminine is the key to this revolutionary transformation. Venus in this chart sustains and balances the energies with her trines to Saturn/Neptune and sextile to Uranus. Her opposition (180˚) to Pluto and square to Chiron speak of the terrible, dire need to undo centuries of patriarchy: millennia of murderous rage against anything or anyone embodying the vulnerable, the unusual, the qualities of sweetness, kindness, empathy, and compassion. It’s much harder work to wage peace. It requires much more of us than violence and domination, which are reactive and only perpetuate generational trauma.
Supporting the Feminine are two asteroids, Vesta and Juno. They are conjoined in this chart and trine (harmonious 120˚ angle) to Venus (not shown). Vesta is the goddess of the hearth, the fire-keeper, the flame of hope and healing, and holder of erotic energy, which is the fire of life. Juno is the Divine Partner, who maintains relationship as a commitment to keeping the balance of power within ourselves and with others. These are important aspects of the Feminine for all of us to maintain and honor.
Each one of us in our own way will need to put our “reason” into perspective with the larger picture calling us to embody the ways of the Feminine. As we work with our own healing, we are also healing the lineage that came before us, the generations of wounded healers, mothers, empaths, and lovers. This also means we are regenerating and transforming our inner masculine archetypal energies as well, since each of us is a marriage of the two.
Obviously this is not “Astrology Lite”! The intense darkness of the world now is like a vacuum that draws out and calls forth the light within each of us. In whatever ways we can, we are called to look within to our own darkness, our shadow, noting how the dramas in our outer world reflect the archetypal forces churning within each of us. The path of healing is not an easy one to follow—but ignorance is no longer bliss.
With the outer planets having changed elements, from earth and water to fire and air, the whole backdrop of our evolution becomes less that of “progress” on a material plane, and more about the growth of consciousness, a calling to living from what truly is our Source, the wellspring of Life of which our physical life is but a part.
